Question

Consider a survey conducted of cars in a certain country. One aspect of the survey is to measure the gas consumption of cars in a particular city:

(a) what is the populatiion of interest

(b) what is the variable of interest

(c) is the variable qualitative or quantitative

(d) what is the level of measurement of the variable

(e) is a census feasible in this situation

(f) is a sample feasible in this situation

I just wanted someone to check my answers to make sure I'm on the right track:

for (A) I put that the population would be all the cars in the city

for (B) i put the gas consumption of the car

for (C) I put that the vairable is qualitative

for (D) I put that the level of measurement is a ratio (but I'm not confident in that answer)

for (E) I put that a census wasn't feasible

for (F) I put that a sample was feasible

Explanation / Answer

a. Here population would be all the cars in the city.

b. Variable of interest would be gas consumption of the car

c. Variable is quantitative as it is relating to, measuring, or measured by the quantity of something rather than its quality.

d. Level of measurement is Ratio.  The numbers have a range from 0% to 100% and it makes sense to say that one score is a multiple of another.
