2. Briefly explain when and why you would use a grouped frequency distribution table instead of a regular table.

3. Find each of the requested values for the distribution shown in the following table.

                                    X                 f

                                    70-79          1

                                    60-69          2

                                    50-59          5

                                    40-49          6

                                    30-39          4

                                    20-29          1

                                    10-19          1

a. What score has a percentile rank of 60%?

b. What score has a percentile rank of 50%?

c. What is the percentile rank for X=45?

d. What is the percentile rank for X=32?

4. For the following set of scores, identify which measure would provide the best description of central tendency and explain your answer.

            Scores: 0, 30, 31, 33, 33, 34, 35, 37, 38

5. A sample of n=5 scores has a mean of M=8. IF one score with a value of X=4 is removed from the sample, what is the mean for the remaining scores?

Explanation / Answer

Solution:-

4) For the following set of scores, the median will best description of central tendency Scores instead of mean of the data.

0, 30, 31, 33, 33, 34, 35, 37, 38

Mean = 30.111

Median = 33

Due to outlier the mean has moved towards the left of the distrubution, whereas median is unaffected.

5) The mean for the remaining scores is 9.

n = 5, M = 8

Total of 5 numbers = 8 × 5 = 40

If one score with a value of X=4 is removed, than new total = 40 - 4 = 36

New mean = 36/4 = 9
