Question

Statistics Question: We were asked to do a frequency table for the weight (in pounds) of 36 cans of regular Coke. We were given the raw data and askeed to make the frequency table and a corresponding histogram.

****What I need to know is: what is your interpretation of the data? and why Coke would want to know this information. Why is it important from a company standpoint? I have included a picture of the raw data, histogram, and frequency table for your reference.

Explanation / Answer

Interpretation of data:

From the given data and histogram, it is observed that the distribution of weight of cans is skewed at left side. If the distribution is left skewed, then there is a possibility of increasing number of cans with weights less than target weight. So, Coke would know this information. This information is very important from a company standpoint because it directly related to the customer satisfaction. So, better quality control of the process, it is important to follow normal or approximate normal distribution. If the distribution is left skewed then there would be customer loss and if distribution is right skewed then there would be company loss. So, it is important to maintain this bell shaped curve for achieving quality and profit.
