Question

I need help with questions 1 & 2. I'm really unsure as to how to determine if it is significant or not; I can tell there is no correlation, but how do you know whether it is significant or not? And why?

Research Question #1 : You want to assess the relationship between autonomy and adherence to required weekly health regimes (e.g., stretching 15 minutes per day, jogging 3 times a week). You collect data from a random sample of community members for the study, screening them to ensure that they have weekly health goals. They complete a measure of autonomy at time 1, and report on the number of times they reached their goals each week for 2 months using a diary You graph the results in a scatterplot, and see the following Does the relationship look significant or nonsignificant? Why? (1 pt) 1. 6 What is the most appropriate conclu can draw based on these results? (1 pt) 2. sion you 0 Autonomy

Explanation / Answer

To check the relationship between autonomy and adherence, we can establish the significance of relationship either through correlation coefficient R^2 or through regression where we assume adherence to be y and autonomy to be x and then try to fit a regression line as y=a+bx, then we check for the significance of b by checking its p-value, if the p-value for a 95% confidence interval is less than 0.05, then the null hypothesis is rejected and thus b is significant, establishing a significant relationship.

a) from the plot, it seems that there exists no correlation or little between the two variables as they are scattered around the plot and doesn't appear to be in a shape of linear relationship either positive or negative. Thus the relationship is not significant.

b)It can be drawn that adherence is not dependent or is not caused by autonomy and there exists no relation between them.
