Question

Create a PowerPoint with presenter’s notes describing your research project on healthcare spending in the United States. A minimum of 10 slides is required. The presentation should address the following: Describe the techniques and procedures that will be used. State the hypothesis. State general equipment that will be necessary and its intended use. Describe type of data that will be collected and measurements that will be made. Define and describe experimental units and be specific. Define the population for generalization. Define sampling technique and randomization, and include rationale.

(can you make an example, thanks)

Explanation / Answer

Project on Healthcare spendings in the US

First step is to select a research topic

We can compare the spendings on the basis of gender

Healthcare spendings of males and females

Say we state the claim: the average Healthcare spending on males is NOT equal to average healthcare spending on females

.

On the first slide simply mention the research topic & the hypothesis:

Topic: Mean health care spendings of Male is different from the mean health care spendings of female

Null hypothesis: Mean health care spendings of Male = Mean healthcare spendings of female

Alternate hypothesis: Mean health care spendings of Male Mean health care spendings of female

.

On Slide II:

Type of Hypothesis test : Since we compare the data of two samples , we can use large samples , and conduct a 2 sample Mean Z test to test this hypothesis

Let the significance level be the default level 0.05

Z critical values : - 1.96 & + 1.96

.

On Slide III:

Population: All the adult males and females of US are considered in this cateogry

In order to define the population correctly we consider the data from 2016 to 2017

We can also restirct the age group from 20 to 40 , as it concists of the adult group

Sample: We need to collect two samples , one of males between 20 to 40 age and another females between 20 to 40 age , and consider their healthcare spendings from 2016 to 2017

.

On Slide IV:

Sampling method:

Top 10 medical insititutions can be referred to, and randomly 50 males and females can be selected from each of such insitituitions

This gives us a sample of 500 males and 500 females

The annual expenses made by each subject throughout the year 2016 to 2017 must be added up and recorded

.

Slide V:

Descriptive statistics of the data collected:

(porvide a link of the data on this slide)

The mean expenses of males may be recorded as : x1

Mean expensses of females may be recorded as: x2

Standard deviation of male expenses: s1

standard deviation of female expenses: s2

Sample size of males : n1 = 500

Sample size of females : n2 = 500

.

Slide VI:

Calculation of test statistics & P value

Z = (m1 - m2) / sqrt((s1^2/n1) + (s2^2/n2))

The find the two tailed P value for the same

.

Slide VII:

Graphical Presentation:

Show the graph related to the Z statistic & the rejection regions with critical values

.

Slide VIII:

Inference:

Decision rule:

If Z statistic < - 1.96 or Z statistic > + 1.96 , reject the null

or

If P value < alpha 0.05 , Reject the null

or

as per the graph if the Z statistic falls in the rejection region under the tail , reject the null

.

Slide IX

Conclusion: If the null is rejected , this would imply that Mean healthcare expenses of the males are not equal to mean healthcare expenses of the females

.

Slide X

Generalisation of the research output:

Thus we can conclude that the health care expenses differ on the basis of gender

.

[This is the basic framework of the research or project on hypothesis testing , the number of slides can increases, based on the description of the population , the sampling technique and the sample so obtained]
