Question

Periodic Functions:

1)

I do not understand anything in this section. I don't know how to graph it, amplitude, max, min, period, nothing. Can someone explain clearly, straight to the point so I can understand this section. Here is an example.

A person breathes in and out every three seconds. The volume of air in the person lungs variesand is a periodic function and varies between between a minimum of 2 liters and a maximum of 4 liters.

Write a formula for the volume of air in the person's lungs using a trig function? Justify and show all steps

2) Sketch graph

f(x)=1-3sin(2x)

I know the general rules for graphs, but not trig. Can someplease explain how you grapg it, the curves, and clearly explain how and what the graph consists of?

Thanks so much?

Explanation / Answer

so a periodic function with trig will have the form

f = A sin( w t) + B

where w = 2 pi/T, where T is the period

here T = 6

A is the amplitude of oscillation os in going from 2 to 4 the oscilation is 1

and its shifted up to an average of 3

so f = sin(2 pi t/6) + 3
