Question
Important for Interpretation In the excerpt, the main effect for gender (as indicated by Feender) is based on a comparison of the mean for all women and the mean for all men. The main effect for ethnicity (as indicated by Fethnicity) is based on a comparison of the mean for all Anglos and the mean for all Hispanics. Excerpt from the Article Subjects were 259 female and 102 male students (plus two who did not indicate their gender) who were enrolled in 11 undergraduate and 2 graduate classes at a large urban university..with a median age of 24. The instrument used to capture this information was an anonymous questionnaire [that included] a list of 18 experiences and asked [the subjects] to indicate how many times they had "ever had each of the following experiences." Responses were coded as O (if it has never happened to you). 1 (if it has happened to you once or twice), 2 (3 to 5 times), 3 (6 to 10 times), and 4 (more than 10 times). Table 1 presents the mean scores of male and female Anglos and Hispanics in their responses to the questions about the frequency with which they had experienced each of the 18 types of aggression... None of the interactions between ethnicity and gender approached significance. Table 1Explanation / Answer
Q. Did the "average male" or "average female" experience his or her race/culture being insulted more often?
Sol. Average ale experience his race/culture being insulted more often.
Mean Score for anglo Male = 1.58
Mean Score for Hispanic Male = 2.05
Mean Score for anglo female = 0.96
Mean Score for Hispanic female = 0.93
F gender (Main Effect of gender) = 20.37***
The main effect is significant for gender with p< 0.001, which implies that average Males and females experienced their race/culture insulted differently. Looking at the mean score for male(1.58 & 2.05) and female (0.96 & 0.93), we can say that male experience more insult.
Q. Null hypothesis be rejected for Q.5
(None of image shows question no. I am assuming it is the previous question)
Since the main effect is significant for gender which implies that the means of male and female is different. Thus, the null hypothesis is rejected and alternate hypothesis is accepted.
Q. The average Anglo reported
a) A greater incidence of being "teased meanly" -> F ethnicity 0.59 >0.05
b) A greater incidence of being "Yelled at" -> F ethnicity 12.28 p <0.001
then the Hispanic.
Yelled at has a stronger p-value as given in the table for F value. Yelled at means are different for Anglo and Hispanic. And Anglo means is more than Hispanic.
In fact, Teased meanly is not significantly different implying anglo and Hispanic mean values are not significantly different for teased meanly.
