Explanation / Answer
If I were in such a scenario, I would neither accept or reject their request to add me on social media. In my next session, however, I would ensure that I reiterated the nature of our relationship to the client, and explained to him/her about the boundaries that we needed to maintain in order to ensure ethical practice of my discipline. There exists a possibility that the client may perceive my decline as a form of rejection, and thus I would take this topic up during the next sessions as well to assess what the client feels about it, till their uneasiness is resolved.
