A few research studies have suggested that when an infant spends more than 20 hours a week in day care, the child is at risk of becoming insecurely attached. Yet we know that for infants whose parent(s) work they are often in daycare more than 40 hours a week. So if there is truth in this research then many of our children are at risk for developing attachment problems. Do you agree with the implication of these studies? Support your point either way with the text or another scholarly source. What benefits do you believe can come from a child being enrolled in a good day care facility? What are the possible negatives, especially in a day care facility that is not top quality Whether or not day care is the ideal situation it is the reality for the majority of families in our country today. What characteristics should be looked for in choosing a good quality day care? If your child has spent time in day care what was your impression on the effects of day care?

Explanation / Answer

Yes, i agree with these statistical studies conducted on a group of children below the age of 1 year, above the age of 1 year and above the age of 2 years. The studies were based on the comparison of the studies on the development of intelligence, emotional knowledge and cognition. Thestudies proved that the development of cognition and knowledge was more in children living in day care homes situated away from the home. The insecure feeling of attachment was also more among these children in day care homes particularly in children above the age of 2 years and it increased further with age. The day care is common in big households with high income and salary and working mothers with full employment opportunities. The benefits of the children in day care units include--greater development of socioeconomic awareness, greater development of knowledge and intelligence. It increases with age and children become more smart with good communication and mental ability development. The negative effects include the increasing insecure attachment among the family members with lack of emotional development and lack of care and counseling by parents for the development of the future and career of their child during early years of development. There is no emotional and career conscious orientation and attachment with the parents. The behavior of the parents changes with time towards their children. The selection factors are not there for the orientation and development of the child. There is a lack of selection direction and motivation to establish genetic relationships ahead with relatives and close associates in the family. The characteristics of day care facilities include--good infrastructure, good learning techniques, seminars, debates and good personality development programs. There are lots of recreational facilities like outddor and indoor games with new techniques of learning and developing good memory with retention of the memory skills. The effects include the behavior of the children, their outlook towards life, emotional attachment with the relatives and other family members, the ability to attain responsibility in life. The ability to gain confidence and choose the correct career opportunities without getting distracted in life and looking for wrong options to earn money or getting engaged in criminal activities and formation of gangs to rob and steal valuable items in the society. The statistical survey was done for the analysis of the Piebody individual achievement tests (PIAT) for the analysis of the mathematical and general abilities of the student with decision of their career potential. The analysis of Kagan compliance scale, and Rothbart infant behavior scale for the deciphering of the ability of children to perform in tests and attainment of knowledge. The analysis of the children was done according to the age groups of children sent to day care schools starting from few months like 6 months to 1 year of age , to 2 year of age and 3-4 years of age and above 6-8 years of age.
