Question
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs has been around since 1943. It is one of the simplest psychological explanations for how we act and learn. His theory is the basis for why we are motivated to perform certain actions that relate to our environment. Maslow believes that how we act and learn is based on where we are in each level of the pyramid. He states that we cannot move to the next level until the prior needs are met.
Research Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and then answer the following questions:
Define motivation in your own words.
What motivates you? List as many things, people, words, quotes, actions that motivate you.
Choose the level you think you are currently at and explain your choice and whyyou chose this level.
Discuss how you interpret Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. What does it mean to you? Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?
Explanation / Answer
Motivation to me means having a goal in life and believing in myself that I need to achieve this goal and make myself proud. It means using my time to build a world I want to live in,wherein I have a purpose in life. It builds you up in life personally and professionally both. Being motivated and having a drive makes you reflect upon your own strengths and weaknesses and embrace them and gain confidence in your abilities. Everything around me motivates me,right from a small child willing to walk to my parents multitasking everything in life. Earning money motivates me,Mother Teresa motivates me to do good humanitarian work and help people, make a difference in someone's life. I am motivated by my passion for life,to live it to the fullest. I dont have have role models who motivate me but life in general motivates me to do something everyday. Learn something new, achieve my targets, help others, dance, multitask like my mother everything drives me to achieve me. In all happiness drives me the most,do everything that makes you happy. I guess I am at the love/belongingness level wherein I place a lot of value on my relationships.Friends and families matter to me the most and making them happy is something that is driving me currently. I like seeing happy people around who love me and care for me as much as I do. Maslow's theory was clearly groundbreaking in explaining what drives all of us but practically it is too simplistic. It focuses on levels, wherein one is satisfied then we move to next one but for me its exists in a parellel manner. Every need is important to us at different times in our lifes. Though, the most fascinating part of his work was self-actualisation.It reveals the positive aspects of an individual.
