Question
The relativity of perceptions refers to the fact that two perceivers can be perceiving the same thing, yet perceive it differently. (Or, one perceiver can perceive the same thing at two different times and, even though the thing has not changed, perceive it differently each time.) Give an example of the relativity of perception from your own past experience. According to Locke, only secondary qualities can be relative to the perceiver. You do NOT have to use a secondary quality in your you may) Berkeley insists that all qualities are relative to the perceiver; so, for your example, you may use any quality. (Five sentence minimum!) example (althoughExplanation / Answer
An example of relativity of perception would be when I was sick a few months back, wanting to have my favourite food but that favourite dish of mine tasted diiferently and I started perceiving it has different and no more my favourite. I stopped eating it but just a month back I tried the same food and it tasted diiferently and so much better.the same food tasted differently when I was healthy and when I was sick. Hence, what is perceived to be and what really is are different. I perceive a blue rectangle i.e., a blue rectangular object. According to Locke, shape;being rectangular is a primary quality, while color;being blue is a secondary quality. So, I have “blue rectangular sensation.” Locke says that my sensation of rectangularity resembles the property in the object (its rectangularity, or its being a rectangle) that produces this sensation in me, but that my sensation of blueness does not resemble the property in the object (its blueness, or its being blue) that produces this sensation in me. Berkeley seems to assume that touch provides immediate access to the world.Visual ideas of an object, on the other hand, vary with one's distance from the object. As I start approaching the building I work in,the appearance of it changes, from faraway it looks small and grows large and clear as I keep approaching it.The building that visually appears to be small and round from a distance is perceived to be large and square by touch.
