Explanation / Answer
1. According to Herodotus, The three Greek Tribes were Aeolians, Achaeans of Central Greece and the Ionians who occupied Eastern Greece.
2. The Athenians attacked the Persian forces at Sestos and this led to the reduction of the power of the Persian governor along the Hellespont and restored the Greek trade to the Black Sea ports.
3 and 4. The Persian king Xerxes organised his army under marshals and commanders who were from the royal court were related to him thereby ensuring that the military wings would remain loyal to him and not rebel. Moreover, the different operations of the army were organised in terms of the regions from the soldiers belonged and each platoon constituted of a particular community who were chosen for their specific skills such as the Medes who were customarily better horsemen than the Persians. In addition, there were guard units including spearman and horsemen who were completely under Xerxes’ own control rather than any commander and they could be detached as an independent plateau. Thus, the army under Xerxes was highly organised to match his war ambitions.
