Write a personal narrative on diwali

Diwali is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu culture. Diwali is celebrated as the Festival of Lights. It is one of the official holidays of a number of countries including India, Fiji, Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar etc. this is the festival which is celebrated as a significance of the victory of good over evil or where the celebration would be including decoration of the house using lights. In India, the women in the house hold make designs using colours in their houses. Decoration is by using candles or “diyas”. People visit temples, visit the houses of family and friends with sweets. The celebration extends over a period of 4-6. The festival generally falls in the period of mid October to mid November. In houses, people worship the goddess of wealth in India “Lakshmi” . Before the Lakshmi puja is a celebration of Dhanteras in the houses, where it is a ritual to buy something new, especially gold. The families tend to indulge in extravagant food. Women like to shop and wear new clothes. The entire house is cleaned as a welcome of the god of wealth “goddess Lakshmi”. Bursting crackers is another customary act. Children rejoice in bursting crackers . Extravagant food, and 4 days of absolute fun is the intention of this festival. It brings our family together, with people bringing gifts for each other, having food together, forgetting the busy life, sharing laughs and the difficulties of their life.
