Question

Consider a psychological disorder (preferably one highlighted in the course text) and discuss how a biopsychosocial approach for that disorder can assist a clinician in making the diagnosis, understanding the client, and creating a treatment plan. Be as specific as possible. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, BiPolar Disorder Create a situation (client, problem, diagnosis) and explain how Individual or Group Therapy can help. Can these 2 forms of therapy work for the same person, sisimultaneously? Why or why not. Make sure this is your OWN original example.

Explanation / Answer

The disorder I chose is the bipolar disorder. The patient was showing symptoms of depression, thoughts of commiting suicide. He never trusted anyone, had suspicion all the time. When he had thoughts of suicide ,he would often hurt himself. He did not feel the pain,he felt he deserved it and felt satisfied after self harm. This patient had to be put on medication and counselling. The medicines will help him to set right the imbalances and counselling would help him to talk his feelings out .Group therapy will not help as their thoughts and actions are highly unpredictable. The feeling of empathy does not arise in bipolar patients, their concentration is on self and understanding problems of others is delayed.
