Part Three: Short Answer

Identify five primary difficulties scholars confront in their quest to learn what Jesus of Nazareth actually said and did. Use a separate statement for each.

The problem confronting scholars in their quest to find what Jesus de Nazareth said and did has a number of facets:

1) The primary problem confronting scholars is distinguishing between Jesus original saying and those attributed to him in the written sources. It has been often difficult for those retelling the story of Jesus to the point that it is possible that a great deal was left out of the real stories.

2) The second issue challenging scholars is the multiple forms in which historical Jesus gives information. He applies aphorisms, paradox, surprise, hyperbole etc. He also causes a lot of different argument amongst his audience.

3) The issue of divergence between Jesus particular ways of teaching(characteristic teachings) and other Palestinian teachers' way of teaching.

4) The issue of various attestations requires stories to be supported by more than one source, which sometimes does not happen.

5) The issue of coherence requires a scholar to regard material as possibly authentic. If it can overpass previous tests.
