Advantages of merging TopCare with Saint John's Hospital:

Disadvantages of merging of TopCare with Saint John's Hospital:

Advantages of merging TopCare with Vitaelonga:

Disadvantages of merging TopCare with Vitaelonga:

The merger of TopCare and Vitaelonga will provide competitive advantage to both the companies because Vitaelonga is providing complementary services to TopCare and is working under direct environment of hospital TopCare.

From the case presented above it is not visible that the HRM outcomes are clearly met before the merger.

Impact of a merger on the employees of TopCare in terms of wellbeing and engagement:

It is a known fact that mergers bring instability, employee dissatisfaction and lack of employees trust in the management, if all these things are not planned prior to management it can lead to chaos in the organization and that will ultimately bring down the employee morale.

From the case presented above it is not seen anywhere that this transition of merger was planned in terms of HRM. This merger may increase the employee turnover of TopCare, they may believe that the management is not thinking about them, the roles and responsibilities may change and which may bring then old employees out of their comfort zone, the well-being of employees may not be up to the mark in the initial phases.

TopCare is evaluating the option of this merger in order to keep improve its strategic place in the market, since reforms are required and to stay competitive and to survive in the current market scenario the option of a merger looks more helpful.

TopCare is considered to have a more humanist root and is innovative in its practices. It seems that TopCare has arrangements like employee feedbacks and flexible work arrangements, apart from that no other strategic HRM best practices are evident from the case.

If TopCare merges with any of the options stated in that case it would have a lot of impact on hospitals merging because Saint John's hospital has a 300 old history with strong catholic heritage which implies that Saint John's has its own set of rules and practices and since it is a bigger organization it will have impact on the overall practices of TopCare. On the other hand if TopCare merges with VitaeLonga which is generally a smaller organization with no such defined practices and any strong corporate culture, TopCare may have to impose its practices on VitaeLonga is order to bring harmony among both the organizations which will again affect the merger process and which may bring dissatisfaction and distrust amongst employees.
