Explanation / Answer
Erik Erikson has formulated eight stages of development ,trust vs mistrust, autonomy vs shame and doubt, initiative vs guilt, industry vs inferiority, identity vs confusion, intimacy vs isolation, generativity vs stagnation, integrity vs despair. The fourth stage being Industry vs inferiority the child takes place form the age of 5-11 years.Children begin to develop a sense of pride in what they do,encouragement from the teachers are parents is very essentail in this stage.Children who do not recieve or recieve very less encouragement at this stage suffer from low self esteem issues as they grow into an adult. These are the formative years for a child for development of self esteem.Interaction with peers and influence will have an impact on thier overall personality development. If a child is constantly put down or discouraged it is not a healthy environment for deveopment.
