Nonverbal communication
Speaking of psychology, non-verbal communication speaks volume. Everyday we respond to several non-verbal cues like facial expressions, behaviour, postures, signs etc.
To improve one's own nonverbal communication, the first and foremost thing is to understand the meaning of non-verbal cues and messages that people use everyday. Facial expressions, bodily postures, voice tone and gestures have a hidden messeage in them which helps us to understand how we relate to other person.
Paying attention to the non-verbal cues that are consistent with the verbal messages is important. Eg. A person saying welcome with a warm smile. That is your non-verbal message and verbal should communicate a same message to the other person.
After having the learnt the meaning of verbal messages and know where to use it, in this stage you start using effective nonverbal message, but you maybe unsure of how well you are using it or if you are using it appropriately. This is when you ask your friends and get descriptive feedbacks from them to understand what had to be changed, improved and maintained.
The last step is to monitor one's own nonverbal communication by assessing if your non verbal message has communicated what you wanted to communicate.
Hence all those factors help in improving communication. It's a step by step process that gives complete guideline to improve non-verbal communication.
2. Once you get a positive descriptive feedback from friends around you, it boosts your confidence as a communicator to approach people with more of non-verbal messages and when you self monitor yourself and see that your non verbal messages had communicated what you intended, you are more likely to feel positive and confident.
