(Answer)

To,

XYZ.

Subject – Details about my most recent and completed work.

Dear XYZ,

You will be pleased to know that I have completed the painting that I have been working on for the last few months. It is an oil-painting and it was particularly demanding because it is a Baroque style painting. Baroque, as an art form is known for the intricacy of details. I have chosen this medium simply because of the message that the painting attempts to convey.

The title of the painting is, “Haste – The mother of division.” It is observed that more often than not, humans tend to take the lazy or rather the hasty way out of formulating ideas. It is easier to hate an immigrant than spending time in getting to know them. It is easier to dismiss a refugee than contemplating their difficulties. Such attitudes have plagued the society for decades. This is what makes the painting representational.

The elements of the painting include a woman of colour sitting on a park bench. Beside her, is another park bench that is overfull of white individuals. The scene depicted in the park is calm and relaxed. The painting, therefore, alludes to the hasty minds as opposed to a hasty environment. The reason as to why this painting has such an unusual message is because we live in an unfortunate age where people do not necessarily make the time to get to know each other. When people are not familiar with each other, all that they are able to perceive are the differences. When the differences are all that we see, it becomes easier to be prejudiced.

This painting propagates the value of discourse and the value of intimate familiarity. Such elements help build relationships with time and effort. This would oppose the quality of making hasty judgments that disallow one to form bonds that are based on vicariousness and compassion.

The process for completing this painting included extensive analysis of the works of Michelangelo and Edward Degas. Their works with oil are riddled with tedious details that are able to tell a magnificent story and convey an extensive message about the subjects. The painting is square and is 50 x 50 inches on canvas. I chose this size because the painting is filled with depictions and hints about the fundamental message all around the public park scene.

I plan to release a written piece about this painting and promote it in the local gallery. This is so that the connotations of the painting are better understood as one that not only depicts but rather disparages the evils of prejudice within the society. Although the painting is self-explanatory, writing a piece would be necessary for the expression of my own personal views with regards to not only the painting but also contemporary attitudes.
