How is implicit memory research inform the continuing debate in psychology regarding the unconscious determinants of behavior? Make explicit reference to behaviors that may have important personal and social consequences in your answerExplanation / Answer
Implicit memory is a type of long-term memory which is acquired and used unconsciously and can affect behaviours and habits. One of its major types is procedural memory wherein a person remembers and follows a procedure for doing something without him actually thinking about it. It is formed out of habit.
Explicit memory involves things that can be recalled. It involves episodic memory and semantic memory. Episodic memory is when a person recalls from past experiences. Semantic memory is when a person recalls from facts and figures.
Implicit memory is something that we use without thinking. Hence it involves subconscious mind wherein we already just know something and we do it without having to recall how it is to be done. Hence itt is an unconscious determinant of behaviour. For example: if you are a fast driver and it is in your subconscious mind that you are comfortable in driving at a certain speed, you continue driving in that speed out of habit, which affects people in a busy road.
