Social status Typically increases both orienting as well as engagement of attention Typically decreases both orienting as well as engagement of attention Typically increases orienting of attention but not engagement of attention Does not have any effect on social attention Which of the following is consistent with Atkinson and Shiffrin's Modal Model of short-term memory? Attention modulates what information from the short-term memory is encoded in the long-term memory Memory requires flexible processing of information Rehearsal does not influence what information from the short-term memory is encoded in the long-term memory Information has to be stored in short-term memory before it is encoded in the long-term memory

Explanation / Answer

Social status is something which typically increases both orienting of attention and engagment of attention. Attention modulates what information from the short term memory is encoded in the long term memory.Information is detected by the sense organs and enters the sensory memory. If attended to this information enters the short term memory.Information from the short-term memory is transferred to the long-term memory only if that information is rehearsed (i.e. repeated). If maintenance rehearsal (repition) does not occur, then information is forgotten, and lost from short term memory through the processes of displacement or decay.
