Explanation / Answer

15.The Panama Canal was built to reduce the distance that ships had to travel to pass between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The canal allows shippers of commercial goods (anything from automobiles to fuels) to save time and money, which, generally speaking, means lower consumer prices. The Panama Canal keeps the cost of imported goods down. That reduces inflation. Five ports carry 70 percent of U.S. ship imports. They are the LA/LB ports at Los Angeles/Long Beach, the NY/NJ at New York/New Jersey, Seattle/Tacoma, Savannah, and Oakland Expansion of the Panama Canal makes the U.S. transportation system run more efficiently. It relieves congestion at the LA/LB port. Most of that port's traffic comes from Asia. The canal will create more U.S. jobs. It will give U.S. exporters better access to China and other Asian markets. Cargo through the canal increased 23 percent in the first nine months of 2017. That's brought millions of dollars to U.S. East Coast ports. Traffic at the ports is up 29 percent. It's become cheaper to ship through the Canal than ship to Los Angeles and move through goods by rail and truck. Theodore Roosevelt was interested in building a canal between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans before the Spanish-American war in 1898. He became more interested in the canal after the U.S. won the war and acquired Puerto Rico, the Philippines and Guam. He wanted a shorter route for naval ships needing to pass between the two oceans The U.S. military had a strong presence in the Panama Canal Zone until 1999, when all U.S. military bases were closed. The canal is still used for the transportation of military water vessels. Due to time limit, remaining questions can be asked as another question, they will be answered, thankyou for your cooperation
