Question

Study the graphs below that were decribed in PhysioEx Exercise 2: Skeletal Muscle Physiology, Activity 4: Tetanus in Isolated Skeletal Muscle.

Tetanus occurs when a stimulus to a muscle is pplied frequently over a prolong period of time, the maximum possible muscle force from each stimulus will eventually reach a plateau.

In order for a muscle to go from 3 to 4 then from 5 to 6 you must

A- briefly stop stimulating the muscle to start up again

A- briefly stop stimulating the muscle to start up again

B- decrease the force C- increase the force D- increase the stimulus frequency E- increase the tension -Average tension (constant) Stimuli 1 4 6 Time (msec)

Explanation / Answer

D. Increase the frequency of stimulus .. by doing this the muscle fibres will not get the relaxation time .. N they will progress to a plateau stage .that is stage 4.
