I know it is one question per post, but we are in the finals week and need to ration as much posts. Please if you can help me answer these questions. Thank you <3
8. What anatomical term means “towards the inferior end or tail”?
(a) dorsal
(b) distal
(c) lateral
(d) posterior
(e) none of the above --[i think this is it, isn't it Caudal?]
9. Birds and mammals are considered “higher vertebrate species”; which of the following advanced features do them NOT share:
(a) endothermic lifestyle
(b) dual circulation using a four chamber heart
(c) use a yolk sac in feeding the developing embryo
(d) develop from an amniotic egg
(e) none of the above (all are true)--[i think this is it?]
10. A complicated reproductive system developed in placental mammals
(a) in order to control offspring number
(b) in order to produce large fully developed offspring
(c) in order to control the time (season) of delivery
(d) two of the above
(e) all of the above--[i think this is it?]
11. Lungs originally developed from
(a) modified gills
(b) modified pharynx
(c) modified tongue
(d) modified trachea--[i think this is it?]
(e) none of the above
12. What structure(s) differs between cartilaginous fish (sharks) and ray-finned fish (tuna)?
(a) tail shape
(b) swim bladder
(c) skeleton composition
(d) two of the above
(e) all of the above--[i think this is it?]
Explanation / Answer
8) Towards the inferior end or tail means it is caudal because the meaning of these is towards the head or towards the superior end. The meaning is towards the forehead or nose. Caudal because the directional term indicating the inferior end or tail.
9) Vertebrates means having the vertebral column. The birds and mammales are in a higher vertebrates because they are endothermic maintaining the internal body temperature. They are having the four chambered heart. The yolk sac that is present to feed the embryo and the embryo is developed from the amneotic egg the name itself indicating that they are mammales means they are able to feed the embryo.
10) The reproductive system is consisting of the two main divisions that are the ovaries, uterus etc.,The reproductive system is involved in taking the sperm in and releasing the eggs from the ovary and fertilizing the eggs to develop the offspring. The placental animals gives protection to the offspring and gives the long period of growth and development of the offspring before birth that is it nourishes the foetus. To produce large fully developed offspring.
11) Lungs are originally developed from the pharynx and the trachea because at the embryonic stage the lungs are developed by the formation of the groove in the lower ventral pharynx and the sulcus langotrachealis. After the true lung primordium is formed.
12) The structural difference between sharks and tuna is
1) These is having the cartilageous skeleton
2) Gas filled swim bladders
3) Massive bodies
4) Muscles are white in colour
5) Assymetric caudal fin
1) These is having the bony skeleton
2) oil filled swim bladders
3) smaller bodies compared to sharks.
4) Muscles are pink in colour
5) Symmetric caudal fin
These are the differences between the shark and tuna.
