Over the years there has been an increasing interest in studying about infants and their development. There are a number of pioneering theories with the likes of Jean Piaget’s “theory of cognitive development”, Erik Erikson “Psychosocial stages of development” and the works of Vygotsky to contribute towards developmental psychology.

QUESTION 2:

Pre-linguistic communication is the more the archaic form of communication. It is the stages or methods of communicating before any kind of language is developed or adopted. The communication is basically through various gestures, actions, eye gazes, facial expressions, and very minimized vocalization which is intentional in order to put across the message or get attention towards a given object/need/situation with generally observed in multiple forms rather than using just one method to communicate. Pre- linguistic communication includes pointing towards objects, showing hand gestures by infants to ask caregivers to pick them up, moving eyes towards objects of interest, smiling or frowning at people or strangers, infants crying for getting a feed or change of diaper as such cannot communicated through any other forms, etc.
