The client is suffering from the feelings of inability to manage things. She is just not feeling OK with the things going on in her life. The triggering situation may the phone call from the bank’s financial counselor.

How would you proceed?

As a counselor before probing on how the situation got worse or what efforts will she put in dealing with the situation at hand, I would like her to relax and may be, I would perform Progressive Muscular Relaxation on her to relieve her anxiety and feelings of not being capable enough to handle the financial crisis she is facing right now.

Next, I would give her the task of writing down those instances where she has successfully handled the pressure and stress.

Starting point-

The clients starting point is the recall of the trauma he had been through in the near past. The feelings of being trapped and inability to do something about the situation have resurfaced in the client’s conscious mind.
