I don't believe repressed memories are valid because it is very hard to remember past memories from a week ago let alone a year ago. Schema is often used to structure memories so that they are organized and retainable. The problem with this method is it's easy to recreate memories that are false or an inaccurate retention especially when put under pressure. (Frederick Bartlett, pg. 257) He asked undergraduates to read a story about a North American Indian folktale. Sometime later, he asked them to recall things that happened in the story but they started to distort facts and started to reconstruct what they thought for sure happened. I think if it's something that is really important to you most likely you will remember every single little detail about it but if it is something that you could care less it's going to be way harder to put every single little detail in the righ place.
