In today’s era , media has a powerful role in shaping the views of society. Hence, the role of media cannot be denied when it comes to shaping of the views regarding ones genitals also. Men with a larger pen is size are considered to be extremely manly. Although individual differences are there, still the generic perception about providing more sexual pleasure to the partner, if males have a larger pen is, is something which is shaped by media. The advertisements of condoms also reinforce these ideas. The males, because of being socialized in a manner where they may openly discuss about sex, are therefore, more vocal of their manly achievements and take proud in sharing their opinions about the pen is size.

Sexual discussions among women are tabooed. They are encouraged to be the passive recipients in bed. They are socialized not to be vocal about their acts of sexual preferences. Since, the Victorian era, females have been subjugated and told to be hideous of their sexual choices. Indulging actively in foreplay or in bed is discouraged for women.

If a man suffers from Erectile Dysfunction or impotence, they are not accepting of this truth, as they think that any kind of sexual disorder will question their identity. Their views of self are directly positively related to their identity and respect in society. If one fails to perform in bed, then they suffer from low self-esteem and self-confidence. The males, therefore, do not take the initiative of consulting a doctor.
