Explanation / Answer
Question: why do we see increase in the rates of incidents showing juvenile delinquency? What are the reasons behind these increasing crime rates ?
Ideas on methodology : In order to research on the same, the researcher can conduct a survey, using survey as the primary technique of methodology. The researcher has to prepare a questionnaire that would include a plethora of questions, starting from basic information, name (optional) followed by the age and gender of the offender, the crime and the time to be served. Also, informations such as the social status of the offender, his education, educational status of the parents, any past history of abuse, friends(closest) ones, have to be included in the questionnaire so that a complete analysis of the background, economic status, crime committed, situation in which crime had been committed is understood. This has to be done by review of case data from major prison and courts in 10 cities with the highest crime rate, along with noting the reason for each crime that has been conducted.
Ethical issues: Many of the data that might not be accessible due to problems such as invasion of privacy of the prison, invasion of privacy of the subjects whose data would be taken; since it wouldn't be possible to take informed consent for such huge number of people. One solution to this could be not publishing any of the names, in whatsoever condition.
Theories used: Theories that can be used to explain these behaviours can be : psychoanalytical theories, disorganisation theory, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism and structural functionalism. The psychoanalytic theories integrates all the components from growth of the individual to his background to his upbringing in order to explain these behaviours. One of the most important theories amongst this is the conflict theory, where it states that since there inps no conformity or consensus in the society and it only runs by dominance of the powerful few, there is a constant state of conflict in the society.
