• To advance in our diverse society, we need to accept and respect our differences rather than maintain the myth of the melting pot.
Explanation / Answer
Diversity is acceptable if there is not too much of it, but the way things are going today, it is hard to absorb and it just may result in our destruction.
As culture is a sumtotal of beliefs, customs, traditions, attitudes, rituals, perspectives, opinions of a nation. We live in multicultural society where every society has a cultural of it's own. Cultural elements for example, customs, traditions, morals, ideas, values, idealogoes, beliefs, practicses and institutions are different in each society. .With the current globalization trends it is impossible for any country or region to attain growth and development by keeping that society in isolation. Although some countries have tried that e.g North Korea but again that comes with certain price of isolation, restriction, loss of freedom, loss of privacy and some breaching some basic fundamental rights. Culture is social, shared, transmissive, dynamic and adaptive, diversity should be acceptable for its perpetuity. Not all societies have the same norms and customs. These pattern of behavior can be understood in terms of concept of cultural relativism. This means that behaviors of others should be understood and judged within the context of their values rather than our own. This idea can help as overcome ethnocentrism, which is the belief that one's own culture and behavior are superior to that of other societies and groups. No doubt it needs lot of patience, tolerance, understanding and acceptance which we are losing now days. But the beauty of culture is hidden in its diversity and instead of diversity unity is must for a peaceful society. As if we talk about their implications for law enforcement, I would like to talk about the concept of Social Telesis, Which is planned progress and purposeful use of natural and social forces. It is a total process of cultural transformation. E.g. adult education, satellite programs, free education are powerful indicator for quality of life, positive social change, social development. Bogardous describes it as an economic development , regional, development and rural development. And it is possible only through understanding, readiness to accept the diversity, differences of opinions, likes and dislikes.
They are here now, and they need to do things our way: As per view that they are now here and need to adapt to the culture of land, holds true for a directorial administered society. Although it's often said that " while in Rome do as Romen do ". It is again left to individual understanding and discretion of what one wants to follow in a democratic society. And this freedom imparted by constitution does take care of rights and responsibilities of each and every individual. It's our responsibility as citizen to take care that the rights and reponsibilities given by law of land and the constitution is followed thoroughly and impartially. If this cultural differences is causing any dispute in the society that can and should be addressed using providing measures and laws mentioned in the constitution. It has provided enough power and means to resolve the issues peacefully and amicably.
• To advance in our diverse society, we need to accept and respect our differences rather than maintain the myth of the melting pot: To advance in this multicultural society, we all need to learn to accept and respect the cultural differences. This holds true to each and every culture and society to an equal extent then only a true multicultural progressive society would be created.
As every other views, which also has an another side of the coin if a society keeps focusing on the negative and pessimistic part of the multicultural society it will only lead to instability and regression. And if not corrected the course in due time might even lead to destruction of the close multicultural harmonious fabric of society waived by our forefathers over years....which has brought us to this level of development and pinnacle. The law if help paramount with needed amendments from time to time with proper democratic way of evaluation and adaption can surely help us deal with the intermittent unrest creeping up due to this cultural differences.
