Research a scholarly journal article on the biological and environmental factors that may impact the physical development of a child. Provide a brief summary of the article. Compare and contrast it to your course readings thus far.
Research consistently shows that living in poverty negatively influences language development. Locate and summarize information that would support this assumption (e.g., journal articles, Centers for Disease Control [CDC], and/or World Health Organization [WHO]). Assignment 1: Discussion Assignment
Explanation / Answer
Assignment-1 Biological and environemental factors that may impact the physical development of a child------
1)presence of intoxicated metals in food and water like arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury, iron and fluorine leading to metal poisoning and toxicity in children
2)lack of basic civic amenities, low socio-economic status with living in old dirty houses with poor water, poor electricity supply, and lack of education for children and child labor jobs in various shops with poor payment policies.
3)presence of chlorinated biphenyls, chlorofluorocarbons, and other greenhouse gases in the air leads to air pollution and is hazardous on the health of children living in that community.
4)lack of proper drainage and sewage facilities with stagnation of water also leads to the spread of endemic diseases like malaria, jaundice, dengue fever and viral fever.
5)supply of poor quality of water leads to various skin and allergic diseases which cause death of children due to toxicity.
6)elevated noise and pollution levels also cause stress, depression and hallucinations in children with attention deficit in studies.
7)presence of carbon monoxide, nitric oxide, sulphur dioxide, in the air causes respiratory depression, respiratory illness in children leading to suffocation, asphyxia, emphysema and asthma.
8)presence of heavy metal toxicity in water leads to the destruction of organs of children and eventually organ failure.
9)contamination of meat and chicken with strains of bacteria and consumption after improper cooking leads to disease in children like tapeworms in uncooked raw pork and pig meat, presence of pesticides and insecticides in fishes from ponds, lakes and rivers.
10)destruction of neurons in children, abnormal catecholamine levels, abnormal levels of acetycholine in the brain of children due to metal toxicity and organic compound toxicity leads to depression ,seizures and suicidal attempts in children.
2)Living in poverty influences language development in children in the following ways----
1)The lack of money investment in education of children leads to lack of interest in studies, attention deficit in children leading to stress, depression, social phobia, suicidal thoughts and mental fragility in children.
2)various parts of brain get affected like hippocampus, amygdala, prefrontal cortex which have neuronal circuits for brain reflex and thinking.
3)the metabolic balance and hormonal levels in the brain also get altered along with changes in corticosteroidal levels.
4)the family in low socio-economic status is under tremendous stress and pressure to cope up with the surroundings as depicted in the family stress model and family investment model.
5)the areas of brain involved in linguistics, languages, motor neuron -hand locomotion coordination, thinking coordination also get affected and the children are not able to hear voice properly and is not able to speak languages properly. The phonetic regions of the brain get affected as well the alphabet learning centres get affected.
6)the children in low socio-economic background do not get fod, water and electricity in their houses which are part of basic civic amenities and they loose interest in studies. Their mental learning gets affected and leads to weakness of mind and thinking. The children lack in moral values, are not able to speak properly and pronounce words properly and have a tendency of stealing things due to poor and low background with dirty and flithy background.
