Question

Please choose if each scenario is habilitation or rehabilitation and explain WHY!!!

1)

The coach of the local swim team notices that his swimmers have great technique and that they do very well in long-distance races. However, the swimmers keep losing in events that involve shorter distances. He talks with another coach who is also an athletic trainer; she suggests including drills in practice that focus on building the athletes’ explosive power to enable them to leave the blocks more quickly and reach their maximum speed faster.

2)The university athletic training staff currently screens all of its athletes every fall to establish a baseline of muscular strength and endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, and balance. Staff members also look at muscular symmetry and check for changes in medical health. John notices that Matt’s left quadriceps is much stronger than his right and develops a plan for Matt to improve the strength of his right quadriceps.

3)Marty is recovering from ACL surgery on his right knee and has reached the point that he is returning to competitive play as the lacrosse goalkeeper. In order to prevent further injury to Marty’s right knee, his athletic trainer is focusing on his technique to ensure that he is play ready and that he is not doing anything unnecessary or improper to stress the knee.

Explanation / Answer

Habilitation is the process of where a person is taught skills, learns a particular speciality for his daily living like a disbled person is taught listen, vocal skills to carry his day to day activity.

Rehabilitation is the process where a person is retaught skills that they might have lost during a disability, for his daily living.

1) In this case theswimmers are taught new skill of pra tising drills for acing shorter distance races and thus it is HABILITATION.

2)The university athletic training staff currently screens all of its athletes every fall to establish a baseline of muscular strength and endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, and balance. Staff members also look at muscular symmetry and check for changes in medical health. John notices that Matt’s left quadriceps is much stronger than his right and develops a plan for Matt to improve the strength of his right quadriceps: Here a new plan of HABILITATION is being made for increasing the strength of Matt's right quadricep. New service is being given to Matt to get rid of his weakness of a less strong right quadricep.

3) In this case Marty is recovering and has to rejoin daily work of being a goalkeeper, he needs to practise and be play ready which is through REHABILITATION services.
