Question
In the 1970s, researchers hypothesized that exposure to insulation material increased the risk of lung cancer. A total of 827 insulation workers employed between 1941 and 1944 were identified from occupational records of three large insulation manufacturing plants in 1975. During 1941–1975, 24 cases of lung cancer were diagnosed among the workers. However, only six lung cancer cases were diagnosed among a comparable group of 700 coworkers who did not work with insulation during the same period. Create a 2x2 table
Explanation / Answer
2 x2 table is formed to establish the causal association between exposure of risk factors and the occurance of disease. From the study of, 2x2 table we can calculate true positive, false positive, true negative, false negative. These stastical values are important to establish the relationship between risk factors and the occurance of the disease. For example from the given study we can say that the lung cancer is associated with insulation workers in comparison to normal individual.
