3. List common therapeutic interventions used to treat diseases and conditions of this particular organ system(be general with the category of medications etc., be sure to include lifestyle interventions as well) (3 points)

Explanation / Answer

1. The main functions of musculoskeletal system are:

1.Protection, example skull for brain ,rib cage

2. Movement

3. support as spine does

4. Production of blood cells form bone marrow

5. storage of minerals

6. regulation of endocrine system

muscular dystrophy is the disease that is responsible for weakness of the group of the muscles. It is an inherited disorder mainly due to the lack of protein called dystrophine. The signs and sysptoms can be vary according to the type of MD.Lack of coordination, inability in swallowing , breathing difficulty, postural imbalance can be seen ,poor functioning of heart and lung.

2. In the normal musculoskeletal system the proper coordination of muscles can be seen , elecromyography shows positive results but in case of muscular dystrophy genetic testing ha sbeen done to evaluate missing or repeated mutations in the dystrophin gene . In blood examination extremely elevated creatine kinase can be found which is not normally present.Electromyography can be done to distinguish between muscular dystrophy and muscle weakness caused by a nerve disease.

3.Unfortunetly, there is no any specific medication for the treatment of MD , physiotherapy, occupational therapy, can be helpful for the reduce joints and muscular problems as long as possible. It is helpful to improve daily life style of the patient as walking ,balancing , to improve breathing and swallowing Certain medications like prednisone, can help for muscle strength ,delay the progression of certain types of muscular dystrophy.
