Question
Single versus Parallel Arrays" Please respond to the following:
Any business would do well to incorporate arrays in to their software as it helps tremendously with maintaining and managing employee files. One such scenario could be when dealing with maintaining a list of employees that could be called up when HR information is needed. By storing each employee name in an array you can then proceed to process changes or queries in a much quicker fashion and also use this array in other applications such as when running a payroll. Instead of manually entering in each employees name into a piece of software you could simply load in the array that has all of that information already stored.
Talking further on from my previous example would be that now you also want to store employees pay rate along with their name. You can do this using a parallel array. The first array would need to be sorted (most commonly in alphabetical fashion) and the second array could then be created with each employees current pay rate or salary. A third array could be created with their length of employment. using these three arrays you could write a piece of software that gives each employee a raise based on their length of service. The first array would provide the name, the second array would provide their current pay, and the third array would determine if the second array needed to be updated and by how much. By keeping these arrays clean and organized you can come back to them time and time again when running this same application.
Explanation / Answer
1) Arrays are very helpful when you are dealing with large amount of data. Arrays will help you to excute commands in a simple for loop to access its data.
2) Data priorities are given depending on their usage.
a) If you use a specific data everyday like work, you can dock those data files/folders to your dock/ start menu.
b) If you use it regularly but not frequently, then you can put them in their respective drives.
