Question

Countif Formula

I am trying to write a countif formula for the following situation. Lets say in column "b" I have student(s) test results and they are scored either as 1, 2, 3, or 4.

If that same student(s) 5 months later takes an exam and increase their level by 1 or more the..... then the question is did they increase by 1 would equal "yes" and if not "no" and record that answerer in a new column. I'm not even sure this is a countif formula. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...Thank you.

Here is my attempt at the formula.

=countif(i3:o3,

I think it's simpler than you are thinking, but it is an IF formula:

Assuming the first LEVEL entry is in column F and the second one is in column K, then in the 'yes' column out at the end put this formula for student 'a' (row 2):

=IF(K2>F2,"Yes","")

and in the cell next to it, we just swap things around a little:

=IF(K2>F2,"","No")

You can fill that down the sheet to deal with all the other students.

That takes care of the 'Level' entries; you'd almost have to handle the other test 'pairs' individually in separate cells using the same kind of logic.
