Question
I updated my Mac to Mavericks 10.9.2 earlier this week, I couldn't open any MS Office 11 programs....kept getting error messages. I found this posting and followed the uninstall instructions in detail. The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to validate the fonts, no clue how to do this. There's no program that I can see in my utilities folder to help me on this....and I think it's related to my problems. I did run disk utility successfully to repair any permissions, there was nothing related to MS in there.....only some printer permissions.
Anyhow, after the full uninstall, I then reinstalled Office 11 using the DVD. It installed perfectly, the updater came on after the install and installed everything up to the latest version 14.3.9 from this past November, I was able to re-validate the product key.....everything looks great.
Then, when I start up a program it hangs right in the beginning, for example with the "Excel" logo screen on the desktop....and it's saying "Updating Font Menu". It hangs forever, then I have to do a "force quit"....when I do the force quit it shows that Exxcel is "not responding".
Any ideas out theree? thanks ahead!!
Explanation / Answer
Once the updates are done, click once on the Desktop to make Finder current, and press shift+command+U to open the Utilities folder. Start Disk Utility, select your boot disk, and in First Aid, verify/repair permissions. Quit Disk Utility.
Next, perform a Safe Boot. Power off the Mac, press and hold the shift key immediately after you touch the power button. When you see a horizontal progress bar, release the shift key. When you are presented with a login, aand before you press the proceed arrow after your password, press and hold the shift keye until you have a Finder menu bar.
Reboot normally, and see if Officce for Mac#@2011 works.
