Question
Heuristics can form built-in biases that may become the basis for decisions. Your textbook reading for this module discusses their role in decision making. Here is a chance to consider a true-to-life case in which the grounds for a decision are under question. The CEO wants to meet with you in a few hours to discuss your decision to realign your department, the staff, and their responsibilities. Apparently, several staff members have voiced complaints about your announced changes. In particular, the CEO is curious as to why one of your managers, historically a high performer, has been moved to a less prominent role. This decision was based on availability and representative heuristics. As you prepare for this meeting, review the factors that went into your decisions. Discuss how you will allay the CEO’s concerns that you placed too much emphasis on availability and representative heuristics in making the departmental changes. What politics might be in play regarding this situation? How can you defend the decision?
Explanation / Answer
For this specific situation CEO could be addressed by approaching the CEO and telling in about the available position as well as the current situation of the organisation. Moving the higher performer manager to a lower post is possibly done for improving that lower post as the organisation follow the bottom up approach. Moving high performance managers into lower positions definitely help lower employees to gain an advantage of the knowledge of the specific manager.
Proper communication as well as a presentation of the information regarding the specific change is a very essential for meeting the CEO of any organisation. In this situation I would definitely use audio visual as well as proper presentation to explain my point of view form demoting the specific employee from a higher position to a lower position. Using proper communication method and explaining about the benefits of the specific movement and reduction in cost is also one of the most important parts which I will discuss to the CEO of my company.
Making the departmental changes is essential for the organisation as it would definitely provide a competitive advantage and better understanding of the specific situation. Why the changes are applied and the main reason behind it should also be described to the so that I will done in meeting. It would increase the overall effectiveness of the overall data provided to the CEO and it would also provide better information and impact on so regarding the change.
