I write this letter to propose a solution to a recurring problem at NAPA Computer Lab. Within the past few weeks, we have seen this problem and is not getting solved. The problem is that all the computers sometimes shows a black screen after any student login with their staff or student ID or freezes while interminable use. I suggest that these computers need to be replace immediately. Students and staff are becoming irritated, because they lose their work when computer freezes or when they can’t print when computer is on black screen.

Problem:

There are 300 students currently enrolled at NAPA and 45 computers in the lab. About sixty percent of this students always do their work at the Computer lab. Sometimes student spend a lot of time working on their assignments and randomly the computer freezes. There is no way to get the files back once the computer freezes. Is really stressful to waste time and redo a project because the computer just freezes.

When a staff or student login with their ID’s, sometimes it takes about five minutes to load and then shows black screen. When this black screen appears, it does not allow you to use all the application we normally use in a computer. It only allows you to use the internet such as Firefox, Google Chrome, etc. We all wonder what causes this black screen problem. However, not all the computers get the black screen at the same time and this goes away once we restart the computers.

These computers have been in the lab for five years and these computers need to be replace every three or four years due to upgrades such as hardware, software, etc. They do not work well because they have been in use for so long.

Method:

I propose that NAPA replace all the computers in the lab to solve this problem:

Fix black screen and save time avoiding restart.

Avoid freeze when working for hours in assignments.

Cost:

The investment of the product is pretty high but HP gives 25% discount because we buy our product with then.
