GLOBAL MOST ADMIRED COMPANIES
• The World’s Most Admired Companies study surveys top executives and
directors from eligible companies, along with financial analysts, to
identify the companies that enjoy the strongest reputations within their
industries and across industries.
• World’s Most Admired Companies study surveys determines the industry
groupings by using the Fortune 1000 listing and the Global 500 listing.
The number of companies within an industry ranges from a minimum of
6 companies to a maximum of 15. Companies must have
approximately $10 billion in revenue and rank among the largest by
revenue within their industry.
• The more companies competing internationally, the more companies
in an industry grouping.

When is the survey conducted?
• The participant list is compiled from July to September and the
surveys are sent out in October each year. A second reminder
mailing is then sent out toward the end of November, and all
surveys are due back to Hay Group by mid-December at the
latest.
How are the Most Admired Company
Industry Rankings determined?
• Raters are asked to evaluate each eligible company on each
attribute by assigning a score from zero ('Poor') to ten ('Excellent').
For the purposes of the industry rankings, a company’s overall
score is determined through a simple average of the individual
attribute scores. Companies who rank in the top half of their
industry are defined as “most admired” within their industry.
When are the findings published
• Every year, FORTUNE releases the latest rankings in their March
edition which hits newsstands early March. The information is also
published on Fortune's website in the beginning of March.

Differences and similitudes between
2009 and 2013
• Note that there is only one non-USA company (BMW-Germany) in the top 25, 2013 and
there are only two companies (Toyota-Japan and BMW-Germany) in 2009.
• In 2009, Starbucks, Nordstrom, Exxon and Caterpilla were not in the top 25 companies
but in 2013 it was in the top 5. On the other hand, Goldman Sachs Group, J.P. Morgan
Chase and Wal-mart were part in 2009 but they were not in 2013.
• The most succesfull industry in both years was Computers with three companies in top
25.
• Apple and Google are the only companies that kept the same ranking in 2009 and
2013. and both were top 1 and 2.
• According to Barchiesi (2014) ”It has been identified a set of 37 companies able to
stay within top 50 of the rankings made in the years from 2009 to 2013” (p. 162).

Conclusion
• The world most admired list is the definitive report card on corporate
reputations. Normally, companies use it to learn and have the ability to
grow and to improve continuously.Also it is determined by its social
competences, ethical responsibility, and environmental contribution.
• All of the world’s most admired companies have been very profitable,
there are many indications that their achievements are mainly due to
competence, passion, motivation, and diligence and that financial
return is not the most important driving force behind their success.
Indeed, very few admired companies assert to have founded their
business practice on economic and financial-growth-oriented values.
