I really need this IT IP Project edited if someone could please re write it in their own words it'd be greatly appreciated I need it done by midnight tonight and just don't have the time to do it bc of my work schedule! It has way to high of an OV score right now so if someone could help me out by rewriting it in their own words it'd be greatly appreciated here's the paperPart 1
MS-DOS is short for Microsoft Disc Operating System. It is an operating system for x86 based computers. It was the most commonly used member of the DOS operating systems, and was the main operating system for IBM computers, during the 80’s and mid 90’s. It was gradually superseded by operating systems that offered graphical user interface (GUI).
Windows is a graphical user interface operating system! It was first introduced in 1981 for IBM computers! The product line has changed from GUI product to a modern operating system over two families of design. Each of which has its own codebase and default file system! The 3x and 4x family includes windows 3.11, Windows 95, windows 98, and windows ME. Windows for workgroup 3.11 achieved the breakthrough from sixteen bit to thirty-two bit networking. Windows 95 completed the migration to thirty-two bit code and started an entirely new user interface, most of which is still used today!
UNIX is a multitasking, multi-user operating system originally created in 1969 by a group of AT&T employees at Bell Labs. The Unix Operating System was first created in assembly language, but by 1973 had been almost entirely recoded! Todays’ UNIX systems are split into various branches, created over time by AT&T and various other commercial vendors.
Mac OSX is a series of UNIX based Operating Systems, and graphical user interfaces created by Apple Inc. Mac OSX has been included with all new Macintosh computer systems, It is the successor to Mac OS 9, which was released in 1999, the final release of the classic Mac OS, which had been Apples’ primary operating system since 1984. Mac OS X is the 10th major version of Apples’ operating system for Macintosh computers.
Part 2.
If I were to recommend an operating system for a client I would have to recommend Windows 7, no questions asked! You ask why I would recommend Windows 7 well I’ll tell you! /The Widows 7 Operating system is great operating 7system; for starters it offers everything you could ask for in an operating system! Programs load and run quickly, your computer pretty much never, ever crashes, and the system pretty much stays out of your way! My last point represents a major improvement over Vista, which used to interrupt your work repeatedly to ask whether you truly wanted to do that thing you just asked it to do. Windows 7 also gets along well with a wide array of 3rd party peripherals, offering fast, easy connectivity to printers, music players, and all other types of gadgets, this is a major plus not found in Vista! The operating system has a fast and very accurate built-in search engine that will easily find all your documentation and programs.
My favorite thing about Windows 7 would have to be is the way it helps navigate an overcrowded screen. Using a computer that moves like a slug, work at a computer long enough during the day, and it’s bound to get slow! You will have countless open windows open on your desktop, files scattered all over your hard drive. Over the years Apple has lead the way with ways of dealing with a cluttered computer, however Windows 7 has pulled out in the lead!
Here are some of the differences and similarities between some of the most common operating systems.
The first groups I’ll touch base on are Windows 95/98/ and ME. These are all un-secure operating systems. This means that is someone needs to use your computer or happens to steal your computer all they’d have to do is turn it on, and they have access to anything they need! The big difference with the above operating systems and following ones is security. All the above operating systems will pretty much do anything, anyone wants them to do!
Now I’ll touch base on Windows 2000 Pro/Windows XP Pro/ And Vista business.
These operating systems are very close to the above stated systems, they look and feel the same with a few minor changes, unlike the above systems these systems have the flexibility and security that the others don’t have! You always have to enter a username and password to gain access to these systems if you’re computer has a username and password setup! You cannot just press cancel and gain access!
Now for my final group Windows 2000 Server/2003 Server/2008 Server/ Any Linux, Unix Flavors.
These types of operating systems give you the best of the flexibility and the security you need. With this said it wouldn’t make much sense for someone to use these at home because it would drastically cost much more! Except the Linux flavors which are free! A server operating system means that it has the capabilities to host files, web pages, data bases, and printers and etc.
Explanation / Answer
Part 1:
Microsoft Disk Operating System is an abbreviated form of MS-DOS. DOS is a popular CLI (Command Line Interface) operating system. MS-DOS is popular in the operating system market between 1981 and 1995. All MS-DOS operating systems run on machines with the Intel x86 or compatible CPUs, mainly the IBM PC and compatibles. Machine dependent versions of MS-DOS were also produced for many non IBM compatible x86 based machines, with variations from relabelling of the Microsoft distribution under the manufacturer's name. There are so many other DOS versions available manufactures by other vendors. MS-DOS is a single-user, single-task operating system with basic kernel functions.
Latter this operating system is dominated by the MS-Windows operating system which is a GUI (Graphical User Interface). It also contains the DOS internally. The history of Windows dates back to September 1981, when Chase Bishop, a computer scientist, designed the first model of an electronic device and project "Interface Manager" was started. It was announced in November 1983 under the name "Windows", but Windows 1.0 was not released until November 1985. The shell of Windows 1.0 was a program known as the MS-DOS Executive. Windows 2.0 was released in October 1987 and featured several improvements to the user interface and memory management. Windows 3.0 (1990) and Windows 3.1 (1992) improved the design. Windows 95 was released in August 1995, featuring a new user interface, support for long file names of up to 255 characters and the first to include Windows 95’s built-in 32-bit runtimes.
The NT family of Windows systems was marketed for higher reliability business use. The first release was NT 3.1 (1993), numbered "3.1" to match the consumer Windows version, which was followed by NT 3.5 (1994), NT 3.51 (1995), NT 4.0 (1996), and Windows 2000. On July 22, 2009, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 were released as RTM (release to manufacturing). Windows 7 was released on October 22, 2009.
Unix officially trademarked as UNIX is a multitasking, multi-user computer operating system developed in 1969 by a group of AT&T employees at Bell Labs, including Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan, Douglas McIlroy, and Joe Ossanna. Initially Unix was in assembly language, later in 1973 it was recoded. Unix operating systems are widely used in servers, workstations, and mobile devices. The Unix environment and the client–server program model were essential elements in the development of the Internet and the reshaping of computing as centered in networks rather than in individual computers. Initially Unix is used to develop applications rather than to run applications. After that Unix grew as operating system, and spread in academic circles. Individuals developed tools and added to the Unix and distributed it.
Unix was designed to be portable, multi-tasking and multi-user in a time-sharing configuration. Unix systems are characterized by various concepts. The use of plain text to store data, a hierarchical file system, treating devices and certain types of inter-process communication (IPC) as files and the use of a large number of software tools, small programs that can be strung together through a command line interpreter using pipes. These concepts are collectively known as the Unix philosophy.
Mac OS is a series of graphical user interface based operating systems developed by Apple Inc for their Macintosh line of computer systems. The Macintosh user experience is credited with popularizing the graphical user interface. The original form of what Apple would later name the "Mac OS" was the integral and unnamed system software first introduced in 1984 with the original Macintosh, usually referred to simply as the System software.
Mac OS X is the successor to Mac OS 9 which is the final release of the traditional Mac OS family released in 1999. Mac OS had been Apple's main operating system since 1984. Mac OS X is the tenth major version of Apple's operating system for Macintosh computers. Previous Macintosh operating systems versions were named using Arabic numerals like Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9. The letter X in Mac OS X's is a Roman numeral name refers to the number 10.
Part 2:
If I were to recommend an operating system for a client I would have to recommend Windows 7.
Windows 7 gets you around your PC faster than ever. The taskbar has bigger buttons and full-sized previews—and you can pin programs to it for one-click access. Jump Lists provide shortcuts to files, folders, and websites. And Snap, Peek, and Shake give you easy (and fun) new ways to juggle all those open windows. Type in the Start menu search box, and you'll see results instantly, grouped by category documents, pictures, music, e-mail, and programs. Search is made simple. Search results can be stored in a folder, and you can fine-tune your search with filters like date or file type and use the preview pane to peek at the contents of your results. Sharing files and printers on your home network should be simple. With HomeGroup, it finally is. Connect two or more PCs running Windows 7, and with a minimum of fuss you can start sharing music, pictures, videos, and documents with other people in your home. Windows 7 has key performance improvements to take up less memory and run background services only when you need them. It's designed to run your programs faster and to sleep, resume, and reconnect to wireless networks quicker. And with 64-bit support, you can take full advantage of the latest in powerful 64-bit PCs. Connecting to wireless networks on your laptop takes just a couple of clicks. Choose from the list of available networks in the taskbar, click one, and then connect. Once you've connected to a network, Windows will remember it so you can connect again later automatically.
Use your fingers to browse the web, flip through photos, and open files and folders on a touch screen PC for the first time, Windows includes true multitouch technology. With gestures for zooming, rotating, and even right-clicking, it's a whole new way to work with your PC. With new features in Windows Media Player 12, you can enjoy your media library around the house—or around town. Play To lets you stream music, videos, and photos from your PC to your stereo or TV (you may need additional hardware). And with Remote Media Streaming, you can even stream media over the Internet from one computer running Windows 7 to another that's miles away.
Here are some of the differences and similarities between some of the most common operating systems. The first groups contain the operating systems base on are Windows 95/98/ and ME. These categories of operating systems are all un-secure operating systems. They are very prone to virus attacks. The system is easily accessible to other persons who want to steal the data of any other content of the computer. The big difference with the above operating systems and following ones is security. Even some of the features of the operating systems are upgraded in the next versions; the main concern is with the security. The file systems which are used in these versions are changed to increase the security as well as to increase the speed of the accessing the data stored.
Now we will see the next generation Windows 2000 Pro/Windows XP Pro/ And Vista business. The features related to the security are included in these versions. If the administrator setup the user name and password to the system, no one can enter the system without the user name and password. Even the data stored by one user is not visible to the other user on the same system unless the permissions to access the content is given. The look and feels are slightly modified when compared to the previous versions. Even these systems are also prone to the attacks by the virus but these versions are less prone to these type of attacks. The file system is upgraded.
Now for the final group of Windows 2000 Server/2003 Server/2008 Server/ Any Linux, Unix Flavors. These types of operating systems give you the best of the flexibility and the security as of now. But the cost of these versions is very high and these versions are not meant for personal or home use. Except the Linux flavors and their versions which are available for free of cost, the widow’s versions are costly. Even the hard ware requirement increases the cost of the system. Generally server operating systems are used to host websites, host files, run multi user environments, and maintain databases.
Hope this would help you.
