Question

Implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) is a very lofty goal for any organization. Especially if there are existing systems in place. Migrating to a new system takes more than just updating software. Sometimes it requires modifying processes, changing habits, providing training, and getting management and user buy-in.
For this activity, you will work for Halle Smith CIO of a wire manufacturing company. Halle has been charged with finding and implementing an ERP to help clean up the flow of data and operations within the organization. However, she knows it will be an uphill battle. Here is a letter from Halle with the specifics of your job.

Hello!
I am very excited to have an Intern available to help me on this project. Honestly, when they asked me to begin the research process to implement an ERP I was very nervous because of all the failures I have heard about. However, I do know that a lot can be learned from other’s mistakes.
I would like you to search the web for “failed ERP implementations” or something similar to this. Find as many stories as you can and see what you can find in common that caused their failed implementations.
Ultimately, give me an outline of the following: 3 or more examples of failed ERP implementation (each with a list of what went wrong), and your suggestions for the major concerns for me to watch out for.
I very much appreciate your work on this project.
Halle
