How will your job be differ depending on whether your firm decides to use a waterfall or an agile methodology?
Explanation / Answer
In an IT Project Management, There are several people that will be involved during the project life cycle and will be meeting particular people on timely manner.
Generally in IT Projects, Key activities are designing, developing and testing and presenting the status to top management. SO during the SDLC I will be interacting with these categories of employees on frequent basis. As to check that designing is in line and development team is working on designed prospects only and problems identified by testing team over the time will help me understand the critical control points of the project and match it with deliverables of project.
I would definitely use the tools like Project Management Software which will provide me with real time information on the project progres, Individual targes vs Achievement status, etc. It will also help in answering the top management queries with recorded valuable information all the time at just a tip of the fingers. This way I can control and manage the project progress and deliver it successfully.
If firm decided for the waterall methodology, All the things will be finalized at the initial stage only and whatever is finalized at inital stage should be completed till the end without any change at any given point of time. This way controlling would be very easy and less interaction is required with team. If Firm decides to go with agile methodology, then project deliverables are constantly reviewed with clients and other stakeholders over some period of time which will decide on the changes that has to implemented. Thus constant interaction with teams at each level becomes critical on succussful completion of the project.
