Can someone help me with this question? Everything is about 'the cloud' now. What exactly is 'the cloud' and what benefits does it offer companies and organizations?
Here is what I have so far.
Cloud computing refers to a menu of hosting services usually provided over the Internet on a usage or metered basis, while at the same time leveraging infrastructure shared by multiple customers. Put more simply, cloud computing involves the sale of computer software and hardware “as a service,” which means that an organization no longer needs to purchase either; it can instead rent them via the cloud.

cloud computing simply means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of your computer's hard drive.
Initially you access data from your hard drive. Everything is close to you. Accessing you data is fast and easy.
If you need to access programs and data over internet then it is cloud. You do not need to install anything on your machine . Everything is available on cloud you just need internet to access that.
Now cloud computing can vary according to its requirement
SaaS(Software as a service) Here companies rent out its applications which other companies can access and use. Over internet.
Benefits:
PaaS(Platform as a service) In this cloud companies provide platform on which other companies build their infrastructure for its own custom applications.
Benefits:
IaaS(Infrastructure as a service) where companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft comes into pictue they provide backbone and rented out.
Benefits:
Everything from applications to data centers—over the Internet on a pay-for-use basis.
We have public cloud , private cloud and Hybrid Cloud.
Public cloud: Will be used by many companies which is monitored by third party
Private Cloud: It will be managed by Third party specially for you. No other can access it.
Hybrid Cloud: It is a combination of both.
Examples of cloud are Online version of office App by Microsoft. You can access powerpoint, Excel online without having installation on your system.
Google Drive, Apple ICloud, Amazon Cloud Drive, DropBox(Hybrid) are examples of cloud.
