Question 16 Suppose that there are 7 instances of only one resource available to three processes. At time 0, the following data is collected. The table indicates the process, the maximum number of resources needed by the process, and the number of resources currently owned by each process. Which of the following is true? Process/ Max/ allocated PO/ max: 5 / allocated: 2 P1 / max: 3 / allocated: 1 P2/ max: 4 allocated:2 It is not safe. O It is safe. O The state cannot be determined. O Deadlock will never occur with only one resource type.

Explanation / Answer

1. it is not safe ( answer )

we calculated need in above statements .

Need = Maximum Resource - Allocated Resources Instances .(Formula)

for p0 process,need =5-2=3,

for p1 process,need =3-1=2

?for p2 process,need 4-2=2

hence we only have one resource and at a time 3 processes all want resources and waiting for each other to release resource .hence system might get in deadlock and is is unsafe state .
