Question

7. Consider a propose characteristics: d process scheduler that uses a multilevel feedback queueing network with the following a) The quantum in the first level is 0.5ms. b) Th c) A process cannot be preempted until its quantum expire are five levels and each lower level has a quantum twice the size of the quantum at the previous level. The system runs background and interactive jobs. At times, jobs may be CPU-bound or /O bound processe s. What problem(s) might this scheme cause and what minimal changes would you suggest?

Explanation / Answer

The scheduler scheme seems fine as it is a kind of round robin system working at different
levels. At every level the quanta is different. But it is not taking care of the priorities which
is very much a real time requirement. Also there is no preemption untill that qanta is finished. There will always be a requirement for a high priority task to run but this scheme
does not address that. So modifications in terms of priority handling and allowing premption
should be there.
