Question

Consider an assembly work cell consisting of 2 machines and 1 worker. Suppose each machine needs to be adjusted before it can be used to produce a unit. The setup times (in seconds) of the machines and the times (in seconds) for the machines to process a component are listed in the following table.

Processing time per unit (in seconds)

Setup Time (in seconds)

B

Suppose the worker cycle time is 80 seconds. What is the cycle time (in seconds) of the cell? Please provide at least one step of calculation and the correct answer for full credit. (4 points)

Explanation / Answer

Each cell consists of following sequence

Machine A -------> Machine B ---------> Worker

Total time of the cell = Time taken by component in machine A + Time taken by component in machine B + Time taken by worker

Time taken by a compenent in mahchine A = Setup time + process time = 120 seconds

Time taken by a compenent in mahchine B = Setup time + process time = 100 seconds

Total cycle time of cell = 120+100+80 = 300 seconds
