Question

Construct and solve an Evolutionary Optimization model for this problem which will minimize the sum of standard deviations across all vehicles.

You are organizing rides for a group of children that attend the summer day camp you are running. The campers are going to be at the camp for the morning, but then visiting a museum in the afternoon. You have lined up five drivers, and now you need to assign campers to drivers. The drivers and the capacities of their vehicles (number of kids they carry) are provided in the following table:

Driver Saul Chris Jen Erika Anna

Capacity 5 4 4 3 4

There are 20 campers who represent different age groups, as outlined in the table below:

You would like to group the campers together in vehicles by their ages. An ideal solution would be only one age group per vehicle, but this is not possible given the number of campers in each age group and the vehicle capacities, therefore you want to minimize the standard deviation of ages within each vehicle.

Answer the following question about your optimal solution: How many of the vehicles contain only campers of the same age group?

Explanation / Answer

Now thinking about the overall working which is provided that there are 5 drivers allcoated for the rides for the museum, and there are 20 students which are going to go for the trip to musuem, however, there is a challenge about the capacity of the vehicle, hence this explains that the bifucation of the of children, which is needed to be done for various ages, considering this the overall data is been calculated to understand how much are the students in the different ages, below is the bifurcation which shows that how many students are their and of respective ages.

1) There are 3 students in the age of 8 years

2) There are 5 students in the age of 9 years

3) There are 6 students in the age of 10 years

4) There are 4 students in the age of 11 years

5) There are 2 Students in the age of 12 years

The overall calculation says of 20 students, now considering the space of the car which 5 drivers have

1) Driver Saul has the capacity of 5 students

2) Driver Chris has the capacity of 4 students

3) Driver Jen has the capacity of 4 students

4) Driver Erika has the capacity of 3 students

5) Driver Anna has the capacity of 4 students

Now considering the above given details the students can be bifurcated and they can be adjusted in the given cabs with below given analysis, wherein the students can be filled up and can travel according to the space of the cab

1) Driver Saul can carry 5 students of the age of 9 years

2) Driver Chris can carry 4 students of the age of 11 years

3) Driver Jen can carry two respective age students 2 of 10 years and 2 of 12 years

4) Driver Erika can carry 3 students of the age of 8 years

5) Driver Anna can carry 4 students of the age of 10 years

The above given calculation shows the overall calculation suffice the needs of the students to travel and cabs to fill up the spaces according to the space in the cab.
