Explanation / Answer

For any organization to thrive and succeed, it needs a strategy and a vision. These are the guiding lights for the entire organization's operations. This clearly tells each and every employee what they are working towards. An employee should know and understand how his actions contribute towards the overall vision of the organization. Only this leads to effective performance and motivation levels.

If I were a leader, first I would create a vision that takes into account what the organization stands for and what it is meant to achieve. For example, if I were running an agricultural company, my vision would be for the organization to be able to feed the world in a sustainable way. I would first draft a vision and discuss it with the leaders of the organization to ensure that I get their buy in

Once the vision has been put into good shape, what is usually done is it is immediately rolled out. Instead, I would organize a townhall where employees can give their feedback on the vision of the organization. This would then be rolled back into the vision statement if required, after alignment with the leaders of the organization.

Next, I would ensure that a company wide communication goes out in the form of e-mails, posters, regular townhalls and brochures to ensure that the vision of the organization has been communicated to every employee concerned. The creation of an X Matrix, a technique which is used to drill down the overall strategy of an organization into actionable tasks at every employee level would then be created and cascaded to the appropriate leadership levels.

This is what I would do to ensure that as a leader, the vision and the strategy would not only be rolled out across the entire organization, but its entire development happens in a collaborative environment, incorporates feedback from all corners of the organization, and also ensures that the direction set by the strategy and the vision of the company is correct.
