Question

The deployment of applications to the Web and the cloud has produced unique database challenges and solutions. Some of these solutions include the refinement of multi-tiered architectures, while other solutions include the adoption of database management systems that do not use the relational model.

For your initial post, research Web-based database technologies and identify a database management system (other than SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle) that is used to deploy applications to the Web and the cloud. Discuss the database management system and its unique capabilities. How does the database management system differ from those used for the lab exercises and the final project? What benefits does the database management system offer to organizations that are deploying applications to the Web and the cloud?

Explanation / Answer

Web based file technologies deploy applications to the web and the cloud through a service called “DBaaS”. Database as a service (DBaaS) is cloud based method in storing and managing the structural data. DBaaS provides some of the database functionality like to the relational database management systems.

Some of the cloud providers of DBaaS include:

            Amazon simple DB

            Google cloud SQL

            SQL azure database

            Database.com

            Clear DB

Google cloud SQL :

Google cloud SQL provides fully relational database infrastructure similar to MySQL. Google cloud SQL provides fully-managed database service that is easy for setting-up, managing, maintain and administrating the relational databases through Google cloud platform. Google cloud SQL is easy to use and does not require any software installation. It automates all backups, replication, patches, and updates which ensures the availability of data anywhere and anytime around the world. It runs faster and provides more storage capacity than its ancestor which is lower costs, higher scalability with automated backups could be restored at any point of time.
